Danny Sanderson - Biography


  • Was born in Kfar Blum, Israel.
  • Son of Chaim and Rina, brother of Shira.
  • In 1960 his family moved to New York.
  • Founded a band called 'The Catacombs' at the age of 15.
  • In high school studied art and painting.
  • Started playing the guitar.
  • The family moved back to Israel and lived in Savion.
  • In 1968 he joined the army.
  • Served in the military band - the Nahal (Lahakat Hanahal).
  • In the band he met Alon Oleartchik, Gidi Gov, Meir (Poogy) Fenigstein and Efraim Shamir.
  • Had a sideshow in Dory Ben Ze'ev's radio program in which he and Meir read sketches.
  • Released two singles in english - 'Like To Tag Along' and 'Conspiracy'.
  • Played guitar on the famous "Shir LaShalom".
  • After the army he wrote a rock opera called 'Poogy Tales'. The opera was consisted of funny songs and sketches and some of his friend from the 'Nahal' band played in it.
  • In 1971, after released from the army, moved to London.
  • Together with Alon Oleartchik, who moved to London before him, he wrote a symphony to an orchestra and a rock band.
  • They had no luck getting a contract, and Danny moved back to Israel.
  • He decided to found a band that will perform the show.
  • In 1973 he founded 'Kaveret'.
  • He wrote and composed most of Kaveret's songs.
  • The band was signed by Aberaham Deshe (Pashanel).
  • The opera was splitted into two parts: songs and sketches.
  • On November 1973 the album 'Poogy Tales' was released.
  • In 1974 'Kaveret' participated in the Eurovision contest with the song 'I Gave Her My Life', written by Danny.
  • The album 'Poogy In A Pitah' was released.
  • In 1975 the album 'Crowded In The Ear' was released.
  • In 1976 Kaveret moved to the USA and toured.
  • Kaveret split up.
  • In 1977 published a book named 'Public Snoring', which included funny short stories and songs.
  • In 1979 he founded the band 'Gazoz' with Gidi Gov.
  • 'Gazoz' released its first album, 'Nine O'Clock At The Circle'.
  • 'Gazoz' released its second album, 'Second Round'.
  • The band split up.
  • In 1980 he and Gidi Gov formed the band 'Doda' and released one album.
  • In 1981 started a succesful solo career with the album 'In Real Size'.
  • Had a successful tour by the same name.
  • In 1984 'Kaveret' reunited and toured.
  • An album documenting the tour was released.
  • Released the album 'Not Guilty'.
  • In 1987 released the album 'Trouble Maker'.
  • The videoclip of 'Party At My Aunt's', directed by Motty Kirshenbaum, won a prize.
  • In 1990 'Kaveret' reunited again. The show was called 'Kaveret Returns' ('Kaveret Hozeret').
  • A film called 'Kaveret - Pictures From The Band's Life' was made by Zvi Shissel.
  • Released the album 'Droppin' By'.
  • In 1992 released the album 'The Best Of Danny Sanderson'.
  • Published a book named 'Ne'eman Lamakor', which included lyrics and music of some of his songs.
  • In 1993 made the TV special 'Twice Sanderson'.
  • In 1994 released the album 'Cry Hard 2'.
  • Made the TV special 'Yomanei Sanderson'.
  • In 1995 he started hosting the show 'Sanderson' on Channel 1.
  • In 1995 'Gazoz' appeared together on his show.
  • The show failed and got off the air after one season.
  • Published his third book named 'Ta'aminu Li'.
  • On November 12th, in a concert in honor of assassinated prime minister Yitzhak Rabin, all kaveret's members but Meir appeared together on stage and performed an acoustic version of 'Little Kingdom'.
  • In 1997 released the album 'The Unknown'.
