: Hi, : In "Self Service" Sanderson describes a person who has built himself up in order to comply with whatever was expected of him. Written in first tense, going roughly through childhood, learning to communicate, building of a character, learning to adjust - are all looked at as a set of technical actions and decisions. Hence the final conclusion regarding death, in which "the factory is soon to close". : It's a typical Sandersong in which words are forced into sentences without any logical/lyrical reason apart to satisfy ... nothing in particular... rhyming or tempo I suspect, but even then I think anybody could have done better than that. : The only pun I can see is a small one, which Sanderson built a whole verse about. In Hebrew, the term "without delay" (ie without further consideration) is said in a same way as "without taxes" (although the spelling is not the same). Sanderson built up a whole verse about meeting his wife in a custom office in order to say he married her "without taxes".
